Marie Curie / Flower Power Fund

I was very pleased to be asked to participate in the 2020 Flower Power fundraiser for Marie Curie.

Marie Curie offer care and support to all those suffering with a terminal illness. As their website states:

"Our ageing population means more and more people are living with a terminal illness in the UK.

Whether that's dementia, cancer, motor neurone disease, heart failure, Parkinson's disease, or any other illness, we’ll be here for you and your family to help you cope after a terminal diagnosis."

Now, more than ever, we need the support offered by Marie Curie.

The inspiration for the colour of the yarn I have dyed in support of the Flower Power Fund comes from a tiny orchid - the Northern Marsh Orchid, or as it is quite commenly known, the Bog Orchid!  This beautiful flower blooms during June here in Assynt in the Scottish Highlands, and comes in shades varying from almost white through to the deep pink/purple shade seen in the photograph.

I am offering the yarn "Northern Marsh Orchid" across 3 yarn bases - Reliable Sock Yarn, Burras 4ply and Culkein DK.  £5.00 from every hank sold will go directly to Marie Curie.  The yarn will be available to order throughout June.

For those interested in the orchid itself, and the habitat in which it grows, we made this short video.  As you will see the orchid we wanted to film wasn't quite out yet, but we filmed the paler version that is flowering abundantly at the moment.

PS please note that Scotland still has limited movement due to COVID-19 and so I am only visiting the post office to post parcels once or twice a week, so please be patient for the arrival of your yarn.  Thank you.
