My current project is a cardigan called Chance of Showers, by the designer Heidi Kirrmaier.   Some of you may see the similarities between this design and an earlier design of hers called Vitamin D.

I am working in one of my favourite yarns - sport weight.  "Sport Weight" is not a term for a yarn weight that is familiar to many outwith the USA, but it is a weight that I have come to love.  It sits somewhere between 4 Ply and Double Knitting - in my opinion it is closer to DK but without the bulk of DK.

A Chance of Showers combines many of my favourite features in a knitting pattern - top down (you can keep trying it on for size), knitted all in one - except for the arms which are knitted flat (very little sewing up at the end), and short row shaping (keeps things interesting while still making it suitable for "TV Knitting" through a tense murder mystery!).

I'm not yet convinced it is a cardigan that will necessarily suit my shape, but I'm enjoying the process of knitting it, and it'll be available for you to look at during events in 2015.   I have lengthened the arms so that it will be more a 3/4 sleeve length which I think is a bit more flattering.

This colour is called Copper Beech, and was originally devised in collaboration with Anne-Lise Maigaard for her design for the Mystery Knit Along she is currently hosting on Ravelry for a beautiful shawl.

Although the Copper Beech colourway isn't up in the shop yet in the Sport Weight (but if you want it in sport weight please get in touch), it is available in the Bluefaced Leicester / Silk 4ply and the Na Dannsairean Aran.  The different bases take the colour very differently (something I plan to talk about in a blog entry at a later date) and so can look quite different.  But I assure you, exactly the same base colours are used.  I took some of the Aran weight with me to Gairloch last week when I went to visit the Edinburgh Yarn Festival team who were having a working break there, and there was almost a scrap over who was going to take it home. (I don't think it is telling too many tales to say Jo may have won ....)

Although I called this colour "Copper Beech", it could equally have been called Assynt Autumn - Stevan took this photograph this afternoon on his walk out with Peggy.
