The Orkney Collection 2013

Between us Stevan and I have some cracking photographs from our week in Orkney. So Stevan made a rather good suggestion - dye up a one off, limited edition series of yarns. And so "The Orkney Collection" idea was born.

I have begun experimenting with colours, and to be honest my problem is choosing which photographs to use as my inspiration. I had planned on having 3 different colours in the collection, to be sold together as a single collection. I had great fun in the workshop today working up some ideas, but with so many to choose from I'm still not sure which ones will be in the final selection.

So ..... which of these photographs would you like to see converted into a yarn colourway?

Now I've already selected a couple of these which I'll definitely be using as my colour palatte, but if you want to influence my third choice tell me which picture you like best.

Doesn't nature truly know what colours to put together?
My order of 3 favourites are

1. Scapa Beach
2. Floor tiles
3. Burwick

Currently I am not drawn to the green/blues as I have a few skeins like that at the minute.

Ring of Brodgar, -those greens against the stones,

Scarpa beach,- love the colours of the pebbles, pinks!
Flooring tiles-pinks and golds

My choise, and Bonnie had a vote also, is Burwick. Those colours are something different. Not just the blues and the greens, or the warm red and yellows. Although I really love all the pictures. Time to start checking when we can get some days off.....

Well, these are all so beautiful which makes it very difficult to choose.
I think you've already said you've chosen Scapa which would be on my list anyway, so can I add three more! I love the stone colours of the Distillery, the Cathedral's muted purples and then the whole mix in Burwick.

It has to be the Ring of Brodgar. The intensity of the colours in your photo are great. (And I have a special affinity for the place)

I love the rusty hues of the seaweed against the silver beach and blue water in the first picture - beautiful winter colours. Scapa beach is my second favourite!

They are all gorgeous. These three would jump off the shelf to knit with, though: Scapa beach, Hoxa, Magnus Cathedral.

My choices would be:
1. Burray Sunset
2. Scape Beach
3. Orkney Sea and Sky
Though I know whatever you choose they will be BEAUTIFUL.

For me, Hoxa, Scapa Beach and Burray Sunset. And I will try to get some to send to an American friend who just loves Orkney. Christmas sorted!
