It feels a little odd writing this blog post during one of the sunniest and hottest weeks of the year so far. However, I have opened up a new yarn club in the shop.
The Ripples Crafts Assynt Storms Yarn Club will run for 3 months, beginning in August. The Assynt Storms range of colours has been so very popular (as is the Assynt Jewels range) so when thinking about reopening clubs which have been closed for a few months I decided that this would be the method of dyeing I would use for the new club. There is also a new yarn base for this club - a bluefaced leicester/nylon 4ply yarn with 425m in each 100g hank.
I actually opened the club for signups yesterday, and all the places which I allocated were snapped up! So I have added more this morning. It is gratifying that so many folk want to join and I'm reluctant to limit places, but I need to keep numbers manageable as well.
So, here is the small print. This yarn club is very simple. Each month, for 3 months, you will be sent a hank of yarn dyed using the "Assynt Storms" method. The colours are inspired by the frequent winter storms that we get treated to in Assynt, where I live and where Ripples Crafts is based. The yarn base for this club is 75% bluefaced leicester / 25% nylon, so ideal for socks, but can be used for so much more. The short colour repeats that arise as a result of this dyeing method means that the yarn is ideal for simple garter stitch shawl/scarf patterns and would be good for gloves and hats too. Nothing else is included in your package - just the yarn. The rest is up to you and your imagination. Because of the method of dyeing used, each and every hank each month will be unique. It is unrepeatable so please do not start something which will require more than one hank as I cannot repeat the colourways. This club is designed for strictly one hank projects.
I have had to distinguish between club memberships for those in the UK and for those outwith the UK because of the recent increases in postage costs. If you would like a place on the club, but want to wait for payday to come around before paying, please just let me know and I'll put a membership aside for you. Please also remember that if you'd prefer to pay over the phone using your credit or debit card, this is fine. Just contact me to arrange payment.
All the photographs in this blog post are to give you examples of the sorts of colours achieved by using the Assynt Storms method of dyeing, and are not necessarily an indication of the colours you will receive in your monthly packages.
