Earlier on this week I was in the post office posting parcels off to Canada, the USA, Sweden, as well as more locally, when our postie, David, handed me some post.  In amongst the bills and bank statements was a padded envelope.  I wasn't expecting anything, and so as soon as I was back in Mungo I ripped open the envelope and the first thing that caught my eye was the card above - "In case of emergency, just add yarn".

Still mystified (and instead of turning the above card over to read the lovely note!) I opened the envelope further until I could see a fabric bag covered in hens:

And inside the bag?

Everything you could possibly need to knit socks, except, of course, the yarn.

A huge thank you to my friend in Edinburgh, Sheena, for this lovely, very thoughtful gift.  It hasn't been the easiest couple of weeks since our return from Woolfest, and this surprise put a huge smile on my face.  My knitting mojo has been rather absent of late, but this gift spurred me on to get some yarn wound up and knitting started.  I'm not doing socks, but I am knitting Halyard (A ravelry link), and although the pattern calls for 4ply, I've decided to knit it using my heavy laceweight, the silk/merino blend, which has 600m per 100g, so I will have quite a bit left over - perhaps enough to do a second?  I'm doing it in Wild Violets and Charcoal Grey:

As usual the wild violets colour proved impossible to photograph.  I'm now well under way with the pattern, and it is working really well with the two colours I have chosen.

We have to go back to Raigmore this week to have further x-rays of Stevan's hand, and then it will be assessed and redressed.  We're keeping our fingers crossed (sorry!) that it is healing as planned and that there won't be any more work needed.  But it will involve a little time at the hospital, so my new bag will come in very useful!
