I would have to admit to being probably the most un-Christmassy person there is. I get worse as I get older. The forced jollity I had to endure at countless office Christmas parties has made me into quite a Scrooge-like bah-humbug. But if anything is going to put me in the Christmas mood it is our annual ....made in Assynt Craft Fair. I know I'm repeating myself, but we have the most amazing bunch of craft people in Assynt. Here is just a taste of the items available at this year's Christmas Fair:
Of course there was yarn:
and there was Dorell's hand painted glass:
There was also the opportunity to buy hand spun, hand knitted goods from Bridie and Russell:
Helen from the The Little Soap and Candle Company was there with her incredibly smelling treats:
Steve and Amanda bought their amazing baking in the form of Chelsea Buns, and as you can see from the amount left after about half an hour they were not liked at all! (that basket was FULL!):
Fergus Stewart had some of his hand made ceramic buttons (which I hope to be stocking next year so watch this space):
along with some of his more traditional ceramic pieces:
Also on display (but sadly not for sale) were these stunning and incredibly tactile hand made wooden spoons, made from birch wood. I was very excited to learn, however, that the maker of these beautiful spoons will be running a course in Assynt next year - I just hope I am not away so that I can attend this course, although I seriously doubt that my spoons will look anything like these:
Amazing talent, and such a lovely bunch of folk. Well done, ....made in Assynt. You put on a great show!
Christmas anyone?

I yearn for a simpler, more handmade time, people giving of themselves rather than shelling out expensive gifts that they can't afford and then getting into debt.
There is so much pressure on people to conform. Its not about the matching table mats etc. Or 'Here it is merry christmas everybody's having fun'
If I hear that one more time...........(and it's only the ninth of December).
For me it is about family and friends and knowing that they are all well and happy.
I look at the gifts that you have shown and everything has been made with care. They are simple, quality items that anyone would love to own. I try very hard to buy gifts such as these at local fairs here. I just think they mean more.
I am now getting down off my soap box. Roger says I am turning into a Grumpy Old Woman and I think he is right.
(I love those spoons - can i come on the course, too).

That said, I love all of the handmade items. I particularly love the yarn, the glass, the pottery, the spoons,...(did I miss anything?)
