I've been thinking for a while now about what name I can give the new silk which, I hope, will be up in the shop this evening.  It is luxurious and silky (obviously!) and lustrous.

Every time I wondered about a name I kept getting an image in my head of the luxurious, silky moss that is to be found on so many of the rocks in the hills.

It is probably one of the softest bits of flora to be found in Assynt, other than the lovely bog cotton which dots the hills in spring and early summer.

It softens what can sometimes be a harsh landscape.  And adds that touch of luxuriousness to the toughness of the rocks it clings to.  So while out walking today I took an executive decision!

The new silk will have the category name of Còinneach, which is Gaelic for moss.

It is pronounced cawn-yoch and the first tranch of colours will be up in the shop this evening if I can ever get it dry enough to photograph - another similarity it has to moss i.e. it retains moisture!

It will be available in 4ply, with each 100g hank of 100% silk will contain approximately 400m of yarn, and laceweight, with each hank containing approximately 800m of yarn.
