For the last couple of years I've had an idea growing at the back of my mind. Wouldn't it be lovely if I could organise an event where like minded folk go somewhere beautiful, wild, and away from the everyday concerns that crowd into our thoughts and sit and enjoy our individual crafts and skills. In other words, a retreat. But a retreat in the true sense of the word - not one where there are classes or activities or organised events. But a retreat where you simply retreat from your everyday world to a completely different environment, perhaps even a wee bit out of your comfort zone, and work on projects that you want to work on.

However there was one major snag - I didn't have a clue where to begin! The thought or catering for a large group of people sent me away into a corner, a gibbering wreck! Then there was insurance, admin, arrangements ....... it just didn't seem feasible for me, a one person business, to do all this while still maintaining Ripples Crafts.

And then the brainwave hit - find someone who has done this all before! And so I contacted Lizzie and Richard on Tanera Mor, an island off the west coast of Scotland made famous by the ecologist, Frank Fraser Darling. Lizzie and I chatted and chewed things over, and I am thrilled to say announce that the first Tanera Mor Knitting Retreat will be held in September 2012. You can find more details on the Tanera Mor website, and if you want to book please get in touch with Lizzie directly as she will be handling all the admin for the retreat.

As for me ..... well I have my place booked already! Although it is advertised as a knitting retreat, I plan on learning to weave while I'm there. So please don't feel you're restricted to knitting. Just something that uses yarn.
Spaces are very limited, so I suggest you get a wrigalong and get in touch with Lizzie before they all go.

And anyone can join me in early morning yoga stretching. I have to learn to practice yoga, sing and knit at the same time. So I will have my work cut out.
