Lexie's Loch has been mentioned so many times on this blog - with good cause.  It is my favourite.  It was probably the first loch which we found when staying in this area on holiday more than 15 years ago.  Today the dogs and I paid another visit to this loch, approaching it by a little glen which gives you tiny glimpses of what is ahead of you:

The walk to the loch isn't a long one from where we live, but it is adventurous enough for Peggy and Lexie to feel they've had a good bit of exercise.  There are dark, oily bogs to avoid (or not, in Peggy's case!)

(To one side of Lexie's loch there is a patch we have nicknamed the Bog of Eternal Stench - fortunately there are stepping stones over it, but every now and then one of the dogs miss their footing, after which their reward is to be thrown into Lexie's for a swim).

Raging torrents to ford:

And things to stand and gaze at:

But depending on your approach, you're always guaranteed a pretty good view:

We've had so many adventures at Lexie's.  Stevan has fallen in to it.  I have swum in it.  We've skimmed stones over the winter ice on it, making an incredible, echoing "doinnnggg" noise.  Stevan has caught his one and only fish in it.  The dogs pretty well learned to swim in it (insomuch as dogs learn to swim), we've rescued sheep from it, we've rescued an otter from the banks around the loch, and of course, Lexie is named after it.

And yet every time I visit it I am thrilled by how beautiful it is.  We have more lochs per square mile of Assynt than people - probably!  But this is still my favourite loch.
