I was too tired the other evening to fill you in on all that there was to see at Ganseyfest. Words can't describe how in awe I was of the Ganseys that were on display. To be honest ..... I thought they were machine knitted!
The stitch definition is so even, particularly the ribbing - I can only assume that this is down both to the skill of the knitter and the very particular yarn used in Gansey knitting.
I'm not sure I have the patience to knit one myself, but I certainly can admire the skill and patience required to produce such a garment.
Also on display were some of the garments designed by Di Gilpin and knitted by her and her small army of knitters. Included in the display was a beautiful top which incorporated some of my cashmere/silk in the design:
The neck shaping was so pretty, and the buttery soft cashmere/silk stars were in stark with the much hardier grey organic shetland yarn used as the main shade.
and it also had lovely touches such as the i-cord edging.
I really, really enjoyed the weekend, and it was lovely to see folk I'd only spoken to on Ravelry before now. And a huge thank you to Kira who put up with me for the weekend. Thanks Kira :) It was lovely catching up and exchanging old school notes! Next time we'll get the school song off pat.

Just a thought about the beautiful evenness of the old ganseys - the more a garment is worn and washed the more the tension evens out. They may not have been so perfect on first completion!
