One can't help but be shocked and horrified at the scale of devastation which has hit Japan today. It makes one feel totally helpless looking at the photographs and listening to the radio. I can't imagine devastation on such a huge scale. I have seen, first hand, the damage that flood water can cause when I helped out in a field kitchen after the Laingsburg Floods in South Africa in 1981. But that was nothing like the tidal waves which have been hitting parts of Japan today. It feels like such a token gesture to say that my thoughts are with all those caught up in today's disaster, but they are.
I spent the day in the dye shed today, whipping up a number of new colourways for the shop. They have yet to dry, so you'll have to wait before seeing what they are - sorry! [Edited to add - I did, however, stock up with some of the Coral colourway in both laceweight bases as this is to be featured in a magazine this month. It is ideal for summer shawls.] However I have put up a new item in the shop - I am thrilled to announce that I am now a Eucalan stockist. At the moment I only have the 100ml bottles in 4 different scents, but if the demand grows then I will stock the larger bottles. You can find them in the shop here. I have been using this and I love it. It reduces the amount of water required for washing as no rinsing of your washing is required. And if, like me, you operate on a septic tank then it is safe for use too. So, get your bottle now! You only use a tiny amount for each wash. You can read more about Eucalan and the product here.
The weather today has been as mixed as my thoughts. One minute, bright sunshine, next snow showers. While I finished up working in the dye shed Stevan escaped for a walk with the dogs, and so the final word tonight is his. This is a photograph of Stoer beach looking lovely in the early spring sunshine.
Well, almost the final word - while on the subject of photographs, I'm thinking of having postcards made up of a number of my photographs (and probably a number of Stevan's too!). Is this the type of thing you would be interested in? Please leave a comment if you would, or, if you prefer, drop me an e-mail.

and on the subject of colours, how about the rocks in the foreground of the photo in this post? I can see them as male socks, as it were...
