Way back at the beginning of September when I went to Shetland for the In the Loop 2 conference, I began a shawl at Inverness airport, and my choice of shawl was Haruni, a shawl designed by Emily Ross. (Apologies for the Ravelry link but I can't find any other link for the pattern).  Before I knew it I was on another plane, to Australia this time, and Haruni kept me company.   She continued to keep me company when, at 3.00am in the morning, I was kept awake by jetlag.  Then, for a while, I scorned her while I knitted my Dad a pullover using some locally produced Australian yarn (sorry, no photograph as I finished sewing it up the morning I left Australia).

I did a few rows on the way home from Australia, although to be honest I found concentration hard on the flight home.  And, once again, as jetlag kept me awake, I finally finished her, but it was touch and go as I very nearly ran out of yarn.  The picture above shows the tiny ball of yarn left over from the 440m I began with - an amount so small it didn't register on my scale.

I can't tell you how much I love the lacework on this shawl.   It is so pretty.

The yarn is simple sock yarn, and I used a shade which was a club yarn colour a couple of months back.   The blocking is not perfect as I ran out of pins, but it is a great example of how important blocking is with this type of knitting.

And the final picture shows what may be distracting me from knitting over the next little while.  Stevan and I have a long history of being completely and utterly unable to keep Christmas presents until Christmas.  And so I received my combined birthday and Christmas present today!

For those of you not familiar with such devices, it is a kindle.
