In preparation for winter, and also for a number of shows which I'll be attending over the next few weeks, I've been knitting hats. These are not just any hats, these are seriously warm, wind deterring hats, which are designed to keep ears wind free this winter. So, we have the ever so simple "3 Hour Hat":

and we have the more elaborate "Chunky Cable Hat":

with a close-up of the cable:

and finally we have the "Leftovers Earflap Hat".

Each hat takes approximately 1 1/2 hanks of yarn, so you can get 2 hats out of 3 hanks. All the patterns are very simple, but are going to be written for circular needles, just because I don't like sewing up! I'm in the process of writing up the patterns for all 3 hats, and both the patterns and the wool will be appearing in the shop soon. The wool is a bulky weight yarn, and the fibre is 70% merino, 20% alpaca and 10% silk. The hats are knitted on a 7mm needle and this creates a good, dense fabric, ideal for keeping the wind out of the ears.
Over the coming weeks I'll be bringing Ripples Crafts yarns and knitting kits to a variety of fairs and shows. The first one is the Food and Craft Christmas Fair, due to be held at Elphin School on the 6th November. The second is the "Wooden it be nice" fair to be held in Cromarty on the 13th and 14th November, and then on the 20th and 21st November I will be having another trunk show at K1 Yarn Boutique in Edinburgh, where I will also be giving short lessons in both lace knitting and aran knitting.
