Having been away for just over 3 weeks it was a bit of a shock to come back to find that our lovely big rowan tree outside the front door has lost all its leaves. Autumn has come rushing in while I wasn't here. Trees that still have leaves clinging to the branches have turned a wonderful range of autumnal colours:
On Saturday we took a drive across to the East Coast, both to enjoy the beautiful autumnal day and also to do some shopping in Tain. We decided to visit Dornoch for a spot of lunch, and we were lucky to spot this lovely little restaurant - Luigi. If you ever find yourself in Dornoch treat yourself to a meal here. The food was lovely, and the prices exceptionally reasonable. It was the sort of restaurant where you not only enjoyed your own plate of food, but you were jealous when you saw plates intended for other customers going by your table - everything just looked lovely.
Once in Tain we took the dogs for a short walk alongside the mudflats that are formed when the Dornoch Firth recedes. Looking back towards the west we had a good view of the bridge which spans the Dornoch Firth, along with the Glenmorangie Distillery on the left hand side of the photograph. Note how black the walls of the distillery are. This is caused by a fungus which grows on the walls. It is also known as "The Angel's Share", as it is caused when excess alcohol escapes, causing the fungus to grow.
We also found this rather bouncy bridge over a small inlet. Peggy, while initially extremely brave, soon refused to walk over the wobbly bridge, and demanded to be carried.
Since returning to the UK my time has been taken up preparing for various Christmas events. I'm finding it very difficult to think about Christmas right now, as it is only October, but think I must! I'm organising a Christmas Craft Fair in Lochinver on the 10th and 11th December, and we have some very exciting stands at the show, so if you intend being in this part of the world on those two days, do drop in. We will be in the Lochinver Village Hall, and if I get myself organised enough there will even be mince pies and perhaps a glass of mulled wine.
But for the moment I intend to enjoy autumn.
Time marches on
