Well, who would have thought that something that is planned and prepared for for so long could be over so quickly! Setting up for Woolfest seems to take so long - my trusty assistant, Stella, and I took hours to set up on Thursday, which isn't really surprising given you are trying to make a cattle stall look attractive! But once the show itself is under way time just flies. So I apologise for the lack of photographs, but it was a little hectic at times and I kept forgetting!
So a HUGE thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello and to stroke the yarn - the alpaca/silk/cashmere laceweight was a particular hit this year. Alina and Maia were both admired (thanks for the wonderful samples, Polly), although some remained unconvinced that lace knitting really is not impossible. I think some knitters felt a little better when they saw my Maia in progress, as when lace is being knitted it looks nothing like the finished, blocked article, so seeing my unfinished shawl made them realise that mine looked like theirs, and that actually what made the difference was the blocking, so if I achieved nothing else this weekend I managed to persuade a few to try lace knitting and to definitely try blocking.
Mungo is all packed up with the remaining yarn, although I can see out the back window now, which I couldn't do coming down. Stella and I will set off up the road after a healthy breakfast this morning, and life will slowly return to relative normality.
Thank you to all the organisers at Woolfest - the team from Woolclip, the staff at the auction mart and all the catering staff who remain so cheerful and produce consistently lovely food the whole weekend - I'm not sure I could remain so cheerful when faced with a queue of very hungry customers that sometimes stretches out the door. And an especial thank you to Cecilia who came up trumps with a plaster when I managed to jam my finger in a table hinge, creating an immediate blood blister and a very throbbing finger!
