On our honeymoon that bakkie took us nearly two and a half thousand miles around South Africa. We have fond memories of it. The photograph above was taken somewhere in the Karoo. We kitted out the back of the bakkie with somewhere to sleep, bedding, etc, just in case we were ever stuck for somewhere to stay overnight, but we never had to test it out as we always managed to get a bed somewhere. Part of the kit in the back included our very trusty primus stove. We cooked so many tasty meals on that stove, but when we left South Africa we simply didn't have room in our luggage to take it with us to our new lives in the UK. We've always missed and often said how lovely it would be to have another stove.
Enter our good friends, Neil and Gilly. You'll remember Gilly - it was her idea to sell Isaac's sheep. Well Neil and Gilly have just returned from South Africa and in the post today there were two parcels from them. One contained more of Isaac's flock (will be in the shop soon), and the other contained a brand new primus stove for Stevan. When they bought it in South Africa they left the shop with strict instructions to test it before leaving for the UK, and so they did, and here is Neil doing field tests:

Clearly Neil found it a challenging process, as he needed two pairs of glasses to get it going!
I'm hoping that tomorrow morning's porridge will be courtesy of our new, gleaming primus stove. I'll let you know how it tastes.

Can't you get a Primus over here now, or is good old nanny-state Health & Safety interfering again?
If you ever fancy potjiekos, we brought our cast iron cauldron back. Don't know if it would fit on your Primus, though
