Deer Hunting

Before you leave the blog in disgust thinking I’m talking about deer hunting with rifles, let me put your mind at rest. This is deer hunting with cameras only! At this time of year the rut starts, and as a result it is quite common to see one large stag with a harem of […]

Autumn Light

At this time of year, on sunny days, the light can be fabulous. Taking time to appreciate the light really can help on driegh days when everything seems grey and miserable.

Lexie has been pretty poorly this week, so Peggy and I were on our own today when we took to the hills for […]

I took a day off

I have been working flat out for the last 10 days, trying to catch up after being laid low with a horrid cold after Yarndale, and so when it looked like the weather today was going to be rather lovely, I took the day off. One of the perks of self employment!

After an […]

So that will be autumn here then

We had an incredible month of weather during September. It was mild, sunny, and dry. The weather for the retreat on Tanera Mor was just fabulous. So it was a bit of a shock to wake up on the 1st October and it was as if someone had flicked a switch from Summer to Autumn.

There is a nip in the air

Autumn is very definitely here, and has been for a while. I regret not taking some photographs when I was in Inverness over the weekend of the beautiful colours in the tree leaves. We don’t get that kind of blanket colour in Assynt as trees are not quite so plentiful. But Autumn has its own […]

On Holiday at Home

At the beginning of this week the weather was awful! Really awful! We had gale force winds and torrential rain interspersed with hail. The wind was from the north at times, making it bitterly cold. At times working in the dye shed was a little frightening – although fortunately the shed is incredibly sturdy and […]

New scenery

Yesterday it was glorious in Assynt again, so we went for a walk. I wore my newly finished Warriston, but in fact it was too warm to wear it for too long. I absolutely love this sweater. It is everything you want in a winter sweater – cosy, beautifully constructed and it has pockets! It […]

More Autumn Colour

We took the opportunity to soak up a bit more autumn colour today. For some reason the colours really have been spectacular this year.

At this time of year, most walks are accompanied by the sound of the rut. The noise the stags make is unmissable and unforgettable. The noise echoes through the hills, and […]

Autumnal Walks

At this time of year you need to be prepared to grab your chance for a walk when the weather is good. Fortunately we’re in a position to do that, as if there is a dry spell during the day we can both sneak off with the dogs for a quick walk without feeling guilty […]

An unashamedly yarny post

This week I received 2 lovely emails. The first was from a good friend, and one whose company we are looking forward to in the near future. I sent her some fleece a while back which she took on holiday with her, and she spun it by hand using her spindle and then created this […]
